Sunflower and Maternity

Today was a great day. Why, because the sun was shining, flowers were blooming, bee's were buzzing, and most of all I had the opportunity to capture a beautiful expecting mother.  As I was capturing the moments of her it made me think on the process of becoming a mother. But most of all the process that life takes as we start... and eventually it comes to an end.  From the moment of conception to birth a woman's body goes through physical changes, emotional restructuring, and most of all mental preparation. Honore de Balzac said, "A mother's happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories."  Only a mother can know what it felt like to feel the first kick of life or experience the emotional roller coaster as her body takes on new form for 9 months to carry a new seed to be planted in earth. A world that at times looks as if there is no good. An earth that presses the boundaries between lack of growth, glass ceilings, and festering crime. But through it all a mother takes the 9 months to nurture, speak, encourage, and develop a relationship with this seed so when it is planted into mother earth it grows to be a strong tree with no boundaries.  As I shot the shoot today I took a glimpse in my past and smiled because my mother helped to make me the man that I have become and I looked forward to the future and the opportunity to one day raise my little one with the woman of my dreams.  And while looking in my past I saw the future of this new mother and the smile that brightened the park brighter than the 80 degree sun.
